Classes

Year 1

Year 1 is a class for preschool age students. Students typically have no English speaking experience and may only know a few English words.

In Year 1, students learn to write the alphabet and identify letters by their sounds and say the sounds of each letter. We cover things like colors, shapes, weather, verbs, and adjectives in the first year. The main focus is on acquiring the alphabet to prepare for writing sentences in Year 2.

It’s a fun and playful learning environment. Students come to our classes enthusiastically.

Year 2

This is a class for students who are studying for their second year with us.

Students in Year 2 are learning very quickly. During this year students are studying phonics and learning to read sentences. They are speaking in full sentences using new vocabulary. They learn about animals and their habitats, transportation, rooms in their homes and things they find there, daily routines, etc.

All of this is done with games and worksheets. As with all of our classes, students have fun but focus on learning first.

Year 4

This is a class for students who are studying for their 4th year with us. It is our most advanced level.

Students in Year 4 are using the All Together 3 book produced by National Geographic. Students can read and understand long paragraphs, learn more advanced vocabulary and grammar, and can understand listening activities and answer questions about them. We review at the beginning of every lesson and each student’s progress is watched closely.

In this level, there is more of a focus on learning, but we still try to play fun learning games. Students have homework every week.

Year 5

This is a class for students who are studying for their fifth year at Wasabi English.

Students in Year 4 are continuing to use the All Together 3 and will move on to the All Together 4 book produced by National Geographic. Students can read and understand long paragraphs, learn more advanced vocabulary and grammar, and can understand listening activities and answer questions about them. We review at the beginning of every lesson and each student’s progress is watched closely.

Students are becoming much more advanced at their reading skills and can make longer, more grammatically complex sentences. At the start of the year, students are learning to make sentences such as “I am going to London by plane on March 10th for five days.” Students are also learning about how to talk about things we “can do” there, such as “You can go to Tokyo Sky Tree in Japan.”
